Emergency air travel can mean the difference between life and death for some patients. For that reason, Medical Center Hospital is proud to announce the launch of the MCH CareStar Flight Service. This emergency air service program offers a Bell 407 helicopter, outfitted with the latest medical equipment, to service seventeen surrounding communities in West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico. The Bell 407, with a top speed of 160 mph, is fast becoming the most popular EMS helicopter in the nation based on its reliability and unsurpassed record of safety and performance. Patients transported in MCH CareStar will benefit from the availability of a portable oxygen system, suction system, cardiac monitors, defibrillator with pacing capability, and auxiliary power converter for in-flight medical procedures. With on-scene capability, the MCH CareStar Flight Service is able to provide trauma care and rapid transport for critically injured patients. The service will also transport critical ill patients from outlying regional hospitals for advance care and treatment. MCH CareStar Flight Staff (Unit) is staffed by highly skilled registered nurses and paramedics specially trained through our associate company Med-Trans Corporation. MCH Carestar is a "DBA" for Med-Trans Corporation (Med-Trans), an FAA Part 135 certificate holder and operator. Accordingly, all transportation by rotorwing that is done by this program is, in fact, done by Med-Trans. All rotorwing aircraft and flights are under the operational control of Med-Trans, and all operations by this program are conducted for ensuring this program's rotorwing aircraft(s) are airworthy and are in compliance with its FAA-approved inspection/maintenance program. Med-Trans has specified the conditions under which flight may be operated. All rotorwing flight crewmembers at this program that are assigned to a flight by Med-Trans are qualified and have been trained under Med-Trans' approved training program. Medical personnel provides care at the scene, at the referral hospital, and en route to Medical Center Hospital. Each pilot possesses a Class II Medical Certificate and Commercial Helicopter / Instrument Ratings. An advanced communications system also allows the flight team to confer with Emergency Department physicians at Medical Center Hospital.
