Outpatient Lab

Located in the MCH Dr. Wheatley B. Stewart Medical Pavilion, the Outpatient Laboratory Drawing Area services all outpatients requiring laboratory tests from the facility. The Laboratory offers over 700 separate tests on-site and can access another 500 tests via an extensive nationwide laboratory network. All pre-operative blood work is also drawn at the Pavilion.
The Main Laboratory offers cholesterol checks; Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) tests for early indication of prostate cancer; glucose tolerance testing; urine analyses to detect kidney problems, diabetes and hepatitis; complete blood counts (CBC) which measure for anemia, infection and leukemia; and any other blood tests ordered by a physician.
The Hospital Laboratory is certified by both the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the College of American Pathologists.
Upon receipt of a physician's order for laboratory testing, the following procedure will provide quick and easy access to the Outpatient Laboratory:
1. Regardless of whether your physician has provided you with written orders, or has elected to phone your orders directly to the Hospital, all patients must first register at the Pavilion prior to going to the Outpatient Laboratory Drawing Area.
Monday through Friday between the hours of 7am and -5pm, patients will
register in the MCH Outpatient Center. Located on the north side of the
hospital, the Stewart Pavilion has a separate entrance and waiting area for
testing to avoid traffic in the main hospital. Convenient parking is
available in the parking garage, which is accessible on the corner of Fifth
Street and Alleghany, directly across from the Main Hospital Emergency
Entrance. (click here

On Weekends, holiday or after-hours, patients may register in the Emergency Department Registration area. Entering through the Emergency Department on the northeast corner of MCH best accesses this area. Patients may conveniently park in the Emergency Department parking area located on the corner of Fifth Street and Washington, enter through the Emergency Department doors and follow the signs to registration. 2. After registration, patients will be directed to the
Main Hospital Laboratory Drawing Area, where their orders will be processed and
they will be tested. Laboratory services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week.
3. Please remember that although the Laboratory will make
every effort to process your tests in the most timely
manner possible, testing that occurs after hours may take longer than at other
hours. We therefore ask that patients in need of routine testing visit the
Laboratory Monday through Friday between 7am and 5pm.
4. Most testing that is performed on-site is available for your physician's review in less than 4 hours. Tests that must be sent out of the facility for processing may require several days for results.
