Diagnostic Radiology

reading x-ray.jpg (22895 bytes)The medical specialty of diagnostic radiology was born shortly after the discovery of x-rays in1895.  Using ionizing radiation, a localized beam of x-rays passes through the part of the body being imaged and that image is recorded either electronically or on film.   Exams that are commonly performed in diagnostic radiology are UGI's, barium enemas, intravenous pyelograms (kidney x-rays), chest x-rays and any bone exams.

The technologist performing your exam has completed a rigorous course of education and is nationally certified.  Our technologists work closely with the radiologist to assure the most accurate result from your examination.  The department is also actively involved in the teaching and training of technological staff in the field of radiology.

Outpatient diagnostic radiology is available during the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  A written physician's order and an appointment are required for a x-ray procedure.  Appointments can be scheduled by calling (432) 640-1801.  Should you have questions about your specific x-ray exam, our technologists are glad to provide you with the information.  You may reach the Ultrasound Department at (432) 640-1286.
