The Chest Pain Center (CPC)
at Medical Center Hospital is a fast track unit designed to accommodate
patients presenting with chest pain. This fast track environment allows for
rapid diagnosis of the cause of chest pain.
Determining the underlying cause of chest pain is essential in improving
outcomes for patients having a heart attack. Rapidly diagnosing a heart
attack allows for timely interventional treatment which will minimize or
prevent damage to the heart muscle.
The CPC is staffed by Registered Nurses, Paramedics, Monitor Technicians and
Emergency Department Physicians who are trained to implement a critical
pathway that speeds the diagnosis of underlying causes of chest pain.
The Chest Pain Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients
are admitted for observation and transferred to appropriate units if
additional care is needed.
