“I think this program sounds wonderful! Some of our patients are so down and miss their own pets; this will help lift their spirits. I love to see my patients smile and I think this is a wonderful way to do that!”
- Kelly Moseley, R.N., 5C

“One of the reasons I believe in the program is that on the rare occasions I have been in the hospital, I remember starting to feel better and being ready to go home.  My doctor, however, had other ideas and thought I needed to stay longer.  I became very bored staying in bed and only wandering around the halls.  It would have been so nice to have had an animal to pet or visit with.  My boredom would have been broken up with a smile on my lips as I visited and loved the animal visiting me.”
- Betty Schmid, Caring Paws Handler

"Children love animals. Having Caring Paws visit chidlren or pediatrics will promote healing by raising their spirits of the children and their families and bring smiles to their faces.”
- Tamara Bavousett R.N., 5W

“My personal belief is that as patients stay long periods of time in the hospital that they tend to lose focus and become depressed.  I also believe that with the depression, the physical being slows down and along with it the healing.  The dogs are something out of the ordinary, brings the patient back into focus and energizes the body and soul.  There is so much unconditional love that comes from our dogs and other pets.  People recognize that and being able to pet a dog, talk to a dog, and/or hug a dog gives everyone such a boost and the feeling is awesome that we are giving that dog/pet some of our love back.  I think with Caring Paws, we (MCH) are adding another dimension in patient care and are showing the community how much the continuing recovery of the patient means to us.”
- Shari Lowe, R.N., Performance Improvement Analyst

“I think caring paws is a good idea because we have so many animal lovers in the area.  Having visits from the dogs will break the monotonous routine of hospital care.  Dogs especially accept us humans as we are without any questions.  All they ask is for a pat on the head and a kind word.”
-  Lisa Platner, R.N., Nursing Education
