Critical Care ServicesCCU is a 20-bed unit specializing in the care of adult and geriatric patients presenting with actual or potential acute cardiac conditions. Medical diagnoses include acute or rule-out MI, unstable angina, uncontrolled cardiac arrhythmia, and coronary artery disease.

ICU is a 20-bed unit specializing in the care of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with a present or potential life-threatening condition. Medical conditions include, but are not limited to trauma, respiratory failure/pulmonary edema, shock, acute intoxication from poisoning, high risk pre-operative and post-operative patients who require specialized and/or invasive monitoring, multi-system organ failure, and severe neurological impairment.

Both units have specialized procedures that include arterial lines, intubation/mechanical ventilation, temporary pacing, thrombolytic administration, sheath removal, pulmonary artery catheter monitoring, vasoactive drug administration, intra-aortic balloon pumping, EKG monitoring, emergency drug administration, and point of care lab testing.

These two units are involved in a new project called the Transformation of the ICU (TICU). We are changing the way we administer care through Care Bundles. We are benchmarking ourselves with like Critical Care Units across the nation. This process will continue to improve our patient outcomes.

Every nurse hired in these units are a part of intensive orientation whether you are a new nurse or new to the Critical Care Arena. We have the Critical Care Connection which gives the new graduate nurse 20 weeks of clinical and classroom time. Preceptors are assigned and we follow each nurse and tailor their experience to their needs. We deliver care based on each patient’s assessment, needs, education, and family support through a multidisciplinary team approach.

Hear it from the ones who know…

“I love working in this hospital.  It’s a good place to work.  Compared to surrounding hospitals, it’s one of the best.  We have updated equipment, are very organized and benefits are good.  I’m so proud of being part of MCH.”  Agnes Villarojo, RN, 13 years

“Working in this unit challenges my decision-making and sharpens my skills.  I also like the spirit of teamwork that this unit has.”  Arleen Ola, RN, 8 years
