April 2006 Military Support Update
You will possibly notice a familiar face in a few of these photos. Dr. John DelCambre, one of Texas Tech and Medical Center Hospital's finest is one of our Trauma MDs - or Dr. Del (as he likes to go by). Dr. Del has been overseas in the Iraqi/Afghanistan border region for about 6 months and he diligently corresponds with MCH staff via 6 Central, some of the physicians and Texas Tech.
6 Central had the opportunity to send supplies/care packages for the soldiers. Along with cookies and holiday treats, the perennial favorite Rice Krispies treats, a very popular winter request for the soldiers was hand warmers (the kind used for snow skiing/hunting). In the photos below, you can see the soldiers and Dr. Delcambre holding up orange packages. The packages contained their hand warmers.

The winter months temperature drops into the 30-40's for about 14 days or so and their hand warmers travel well. Dr. Del says it's starting to warm up, and while we have to watch for our rattlesnakes here in Texas, the soldiers have sand vipers to watch for! They also have to watch for rocket-propelled grenades and snipers during their daily rounds! A Chaplain is with their Company at all times and they would love to be kept in everyone's thoughts and prayers whenever possible.
Dr. Del's Company is presently on the move and our care packages are on hold for now. Their e-mail address is also changing but they stay in touch whenever possible to let us know they're still okay. We are so very, very proud of Dr. Delcambre and we hope to have him and the soldiers home as soon as possible.
